  1. Homogenize

Had the riff, started out as a leaving-a-girl song, but I had just been to Europe for the first time and was pissed that the first places I saw to eat were McDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut. I was even more pissed that I ate at one of them. (I should mention I was in Amsterdam, and I was insanely hungry, confused and very happy.) Now when you drive across the USA and listen to the radio, you barely get a sense that you’re someplace else. There’s no more regional music, it’s the same damn songs selected by the same damn computer all across the USA now. Just look around man, just look around and listen!

Lyrics

Homogenize
Garrick Rawlings ©1998

You know I’ve got to ride
Go on get out of here
This ain’t foolish pride
This time I got it right

What happened to Mr. Soul?
Who said he had to go
Everything’s in disarray
Can Joe Yankee find his way?

Everybody quit fucking around
Look at your kids they’re so uptown
Your trendy values mean nothing to me
Homogeny spreads like disease

Take your fashion take your style
Are you blind or in denial?
Bound for glory you declare
Sad to see why don’t you care?

What happened to Mr. Soul?
Who said he had to go
I need him right now
I can’t take this in crowd

Chorus

You know I‘ve got to ride
Go on get out of here
It’s your foolish pride
That made me lose my mind

Chorus

Bound for glory you declare
All I see is a vacant stare
This time I got it right
You’re no longer on my side
